OVEN OR PAN-BAKED GARLIC BREAD: Quick, easy, and incredibly tasty

This homemade garlic bread is soft, flavorful, and perfect as a side dish or snack. Whether cooked in a pan or baked in the oven, this recipe delivers a golden crust, a soft interior, and a burst of garlic and herb flavor in every bite.

Ingredients

  • For the Dough:
    • 3 cups (375g) all-purpose flour
    • 1 teaspoon sugar
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 2 teaspoons instant dry yeast
    • 1 cup (240ml) warm water
    • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • For the Garlic Butter:
    • 4 tablespoons (60g) unsalted butter, softened
    • 3 garlic cloves, minced
    • 1 teaspoon oregano
    • 1 teaspoon chili flakes (optional)
    • 1 tablespoon parsley, chopped (optional)
  • For Topping:
    • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
    • Extra oregano and chili flakes for sprinkling
    • Extra butter for brushing

Directions

Prepare the Dough:

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.

Gradually add warm water and olive oil. Mix until a soft dough forms.

Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Prepare the Garlic Butter:

In a small bowl, mix softened butter with minced garlic, oregano, chili flakes, and parsley. Set aside.

Shape the Dough:

Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a rectangle or circle, about 1/2-inch thick.

Spread half of the prepared garlic butter over the dough.

Prepare for Cooking:

Spread the remaining garlic butter mixture on top of the dough.

Sprinkle with extra oregano, chili flakes, and sesame seeds.

Use a sharp knife to make shallow cuts on the surface for even cooking and better flavor penetration.

Cook the Garlic Bread (Pan Method):

Heat a heavy-bottomed pan or skillet over medium flame for 5 minutes.

Place the prepared dough in the pan, cover with a lid, and cook on medium flame for 15-25 minutes. Rotate the pan occasionally to ensure even cooking.

Cook the Garlic Bread (Oven Method):

Preheat the oven to 180°C (356°F).

Place the dough on a greased or parchment-lined baking tray.

Bake for 20-30 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.

Finishing Touch:

Remove the garlic bread from the pan or oven.

While still hot, brush the surface with extra butter for added flavor and shine.

Serve:

Slice and serve warm. Enjoy your homemade garlic bread with soup, pasta, or as a snack!
